Food-contact coatings & silicone rubber: two GB standards take effect Sept 2026

NHC and SAMR published GB 4806.10-2025 (coatings/coating layers for food-contact materials and articles) and GB 4806.16-2025 (silicone rubber materials and articles for food contact). Both product standards take effect on 2 September 2026.

What changed

  • Coatings: broader scope (including certain paper coatings and indirect-contact layers), clearer base-raw-material controls, refined physicochemical and specific migration expectations.
  • Silicone rubber: standalone standard with defined indicators (overall migration, potassium permanganate consumption, heavy metals, volatiles, specific migration) and migration testing aligned with GB 31604.1 principles.

Actions for manufacturers

  1. Map SKUs that fall under the new scopes.
  2. Verify base materials and additives against allowed lists / GB 9685.
  3. Schedule migration and key physicochemical testing under realistic use conditions.
  4. Align labeling and supplier declarations before the effective date.
